Thompson’s Sport Shop collecting used baseball equipment for Give One Glove

Thompson’s Sport Shop is collecting used baseball equipment for Give One Glove.
Give One Glove is a Savannah-based nonprofit that collects donated baseball equipment to give to children in need, mostly in the Dominican Republic.
Give One Glove donates equipment in the Dominican Republic, in Savannah and in cities like Atlanta, Nashville and Miami. The main need in the Dominican Republic is for gloves, balls and catcher’s equipment. The nonprofit sometimes sells donated equipment to purchase more gloves or may recycle donated aluminum bats and use that money to buy more gloves and baseballs at stores like Play it Again Sports. Only wooden bats will go to the Dominican Republic.

Thompson’s Sport Shop is located at 5 Mall Annex, next to the Oglethorpe Mall public library. The store is open 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. The collection bin will only be accessible during store hours.
Give One Glove was started in 2011 by Savannahian Tristan Triplett when he was 14. While on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic playing baseball with the local kids, Tristan saw how much they needed baseball equipment and gave his baseball glove to one of the players. The appreciation he felt for the simple deed was life-changing. Tristan returned home to Savannah with the desire to do all he could to deliver more gloves to his new friends in the Dominican Republic, and Give One Glove.com began.
Children in the Dominican Republic often share one glove as they practice, and they sometimes fashion home-made gloves from milk cartons and other things they have at hand.
Savannah Girl Scout Troop 30305 based at Blessed Sacrament Church is helping Give One Glove collect baseball equipment.
