The Palmetto Plant Eaters Club, a PlantPure Nation pod group that meets monthly (free & open to the public) to teach and support plant-based eating, will be hosting Brent Wearren as its guest speaker on Wednesday, August 2nd at 6:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry at 110 Malphrus Road in Bluffton, SC. He will be discussing how to get started with organic vegetable and fruit production, the fundamentals of growing in containers and raised beds, and tips for creating edible landscapes.

The one hour Palmetto Plant Eaters Club meeting will consist of introductions, announcements, upcoming calendar events, and the guest presentation. Afterward a Q&A session wiill take place for the speaker and to address any general plant-based lifestyle topics. Our meetings are for the curious, newbies, and longtime plant-based vegan practitioners alike. A plant-based cookbook will be given away to one meeting attendee. Must be present to win.
Brent Wearren, father of Blake Wearren who owns the popular Delisheeyo eatery on Hilton Head Island, grew up in a gardening family. He started growing food and ornamentals with his two grandfathers and father in Kentucky when he was 8 years old. Brent studied horticulture at Michigan State then operated a 1,150 acre wholesale nursery business with his father for 34 years. After moving to South Carolina, working for Green Thumb Nursery, and fine-tuning his organic growing skills, Brent took over managing the spectacular Delisheeyo edible garden in 2015. Brent is also a consultant and personal organic gardner on the island helping homeowners create edible landscapes. Anyone who has seen the Delisheeyo garden knows that Brent is a plant whisperer. The leadership academy is open to high school sophomores and juniors in Chatham, Bryan and Liberty Counties. Chef Michelle’s love affair with cooking began at the age of nine growing up in the inner City of Washington, D.C., just walking distance from the White House, while watching her grandmother Gussie cook daily meals which were often left to Michelle to complete.
