One Yoga Sanctuary, located at 73 Sea Island Pkwy. in Beaufort, is offering “Brainy and Bendy,” a workshop dedicated to the art of backbends, on Saturday, March 28, from 1-3:30 p.m. One Yoga instructors Carol Morrissey and Stacy Hannah will lead participants through an exploration of the movement necessary to achieve safe, satisfying backbends. The cost of the workshop is $25 and advanced registration is required, as space is limited in order to provide individualized attention.
“Backbends are one of yoga’s most expansive and energetic categories of poses. They are a natural antidote to the forward postures that many of us find ourselves in for much of the day,” said Morrissey. “We rarely have time in shorter classes to cultivate a deep understanding of the intelligent actions necessary to create deep, full, and expansive bends. The workshop environment allows the student to learn skill sets that foster the advancement of their yoga practice.”
Morrissey has been teaching yoga for over 14 years, is trained in various alignment based forms of yoga, and is well versed in vinyasa and therapeutics, combining all into creative and exploratory classes. Hannah, a life-long athlete, began her training at Wilmington Yoga Center in North Carolina and continued with the study of various forms of yoga. Her unique blend emphasizes breath flow while moving with strength and grace.
One Yoga Sanctuary is owned by Dragana Pavic-Zappa and is an interdisciplinary studio offering many styles and levels of yoga in a serene setting over the sea. The studio offers several donation-based classes and welcomes all to practice regardless of ability to pay.
